The 9/11 Cross!

THE 9/11 CROSS
Doris Noland

Within the fiery bowels of hell itself
They found the metal cross,
Marred by flames and twisted sore
Surrounded by debris and dust.
The filtered sunrays through the smoke
Illuminate its surface,
And tired eyes and tear stained faces
Turned and looked in wonder.

“A Cross!” the whispered words were said,
Repeated like an echo,
The weary, sweat soaked Heroes knelt
Within the holy chamber.

The Cross! God understood their grief
He understood their anger!
God understood the savagery
The horror and the pain!
And calmed by this assurance
They renewed their search again.

The years have passed, the Cross remains.
It’s jagged beauty standing
Reminding all the passers by
Of those dark times when God seemed… far away.
Yet, hidden in our darkest hours
His Cross remains today.

                                                          ***********************

“Down beneath the shame or loss
Sinks the plummet of the cross
Never yet abyss was found
Deeper than His love can sound.”

Lloyd John Ogilvie

I am reminded today, ten years later, that in the midst of great tragedy, Divine always triumphs. To help us remember, following 9/11, I commissioned the making of a documentary film titled, “Unsung,” narrated by Richard Dreyfus who freely gave of his time and talent.

It can be viewed at www.savn.tv. Also a Service of Remembrance will be live streamed at 2:00 p.m. (PST) on 9/11/11. The Service can also be accessed On Demand following the live-stream should you not be able to attend.

Doris, your thoughts were beautiful. Had special meaning as I just viewed a video on Reflections" of 9/11 which was sent to me by a friend. It shows just how meaningful that cross was at the time & how it continues to make Ground 0 such Holy Ground. I'm looking forward to 2:00 pm Sunday at Long Beach by internet. Thanks to all who've made it possible for those unable to attend.
