I’ve written a post on this subject due up on www.therubicon.org when they resume on February 1, sure to ruffle a few feathers. In the meantime, The Daily Show has a bit on YouTube that will whet your appetite. For those of you reading this and not able to get the link, Google “The Daily Show, January 14, Haiti Disaster” and it will come up.
By the way, for you www.armybarmy.com fans, did you take note of the 699 million “Great Commissioner Christians” listed on their January 23 post? A typo I’m sure. There are some, however, that would consider “Commissioner Christians”an oxymoron. I’ll let you be the judge.

Couple of Things!

My twin grandsons making their statement known - the wave of the future.
WARdrobe continues to stir things up creatively, uniform wise (which I support wholeheartedly). Check out the following video, certain to put a smile on your face, depending upon your leaning that is (conservative brethren beware):

If you're on facebook become a fan of WARdrobe: Army Apparel.
The following comment was in response to my top 10 decisions 2009 below (Dec 28):
“These are huge, but there was one decision of huge theological significance that I believe trumps them all. The current General changed the international position on the sacraments from non-essential for salvation to forbidden to practice” - Robyn.
Can’t recall what the position statement says on this subject. For me, the sacramental position has always been a personal thing. How I choose to worship in private, no one can deny.
Here’s another video link that should make you laugh out loud. I did anyway. The officer depicted remind you of anyone?

Here are a couple of others. Remind you of any army meetings you’ve been in, hard pew benches and all? What about the person sitting next to Mr. Bean, remind you of any soldiers you know? Kind of looks like Commissioner Will Pratt, but not in demeanor of course. These would be good videos to show in a corps growth seminar. Really, how comfortable are new people when they attend one of our meetings for the first time?

2010: A Fresh Start!
The first Sunday of 2010 was spent worshipping on the beach at “The Rock,” an innovative ministry of The Salvation Army on the West shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Lo and behold, who should drop in to worship with us? A General of The Salvation Army! Pictured above are General Paul and Commissioner Kay Rader with their son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Check out the uniforms, appropriate for this particular setting. Also included, a couple of other Commissioners, our son and daughter-in-law who give leadership to this unique ministry (and one of the twins, not sure which one).
Rob’s message that morning included a pass out sheet with 6 resolutions. I share them with you exactly as written:
SIX RESOLUTIONS!
By William Booth (age 20)
1. That I will rise every morning sufficiently early to wash, dress, and have a few minutes, not less than five, in private prayer.
2. That I will, as much as possible, avoid all that babbling and idle talk in which I have lately so sinfully indulged.
3. That I will endeavor in my conduct and deportment before the world and my fellow servants especially to conduct myself as a humble, meek and zealous follower of Christ, and by serious conversation and warning endeavor to lead them to think of their immortal souls.
4. That I will read no less than four chapters in God’s Word every day.
5. That I will strive to live closer to God, and to seek after holiness of heart and leave providential events with God.
6. That I will read over this every day or at least twice a week.
“God help me, enable me to cultivate a spirit of self-denial and to yield myself a prisoner of love to the redeemer of the world.”
Amen & Amen
WILLIAM BOOTH
“I feel my own weakness, and without God’s help I shall not keep these resolutions. The Lord have mercy upon my guilty soul.”
Had William Booth, himself, been there that morning he would have felt very comfortable in that non-institutional setting (sans uniform) and probably would have shouted an "Amen & Amen!"

a la C.S. Lewis!
Commissioner Jim Knaggs quotes a great piece over on his blog – www.tcspeak.com/blog (Dec 31) - written by Paul Greenberg, the Pulitzer prize-winning editorial page editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - “Tragic Timeless Realities a la C.S. Lewis.” It follows the tragic death of Major Philip Wise (See below, Dec 27)...Let's keep the “Love Chain” going.
