Hillmon Buckingham

I pay tribute to Commissioner Hillmon Buckingham over at The Rubicon. Hit this link for access and/or at the site, scroll down to the “Lives Lived” button.

The message accompanying this tribute is transformational leadership and the power of a sanctified life. Yes, the two can and must exist hand-in-hand today, God helping us.

Inaugural Irregular Blog!

SC over at ArmyBarmy reminds us, it’s that scary time of year again (Western hemisphere) with appointment changes announced in Canada/Bermuda this weekend. Eerily enough, the TC there was my Personnel and Chief Secretary during our tenure in USA East. In those capacities, he used to come knocking on my door this time of year with long list in hand (stretching from Columbus to Bangor). Those were some interesting sessions. Now Bill Francis is on the receiving end, God bless him.

Interestingly enough, it was an appointment guffaw (from my philosophical leadership perspective) that launched this blog back in 2006. Following is the opening and closing paragraph of that writing:

“Recently a prominent Cabinet member wrote to the effect that every appointment is God made and God-ordained. God will equip you for the appointment and there is not an appointment where He can’t use you. I must confess that I cringe every time I hear this kind of logic. I must also confess that I don’t have all the answers, but permit me to pose a few more, “I wonder” questions for all of us to ponder.”

“Yes, I’m not perfect and, no, I don’t have all the answers (“No way, Jose!” as my granddaughter would exclaim), but I would implore all of you future leaders (Denominational and Congregational) reading these words to prayerfully consider the questions posed above. And as you grow older and wiser, work hard not to forget that a constantly changing and evolving culture will undoubtedly differ from the one that shaped your own inherited and/or modeled leadership (management) style.”

To read what’s in between these two paragraphs, go to the archives left, click on “July” at the very bottom and then scroll down to July 9, 2006, my inaugural blog.

Love Revolution!

video
The message of this film follows the theme posted below, "Wailing and Gnashing," and the one over at Slightly Irreverent, "Say What?" The program's purpose is to ensure that love does not leak out (More on that coming shortly over at The Rubicon). Producer/Director: Guy Noland. Executive Producer and Director of Revolution Hawaii: Rob Noland. If the last name sounds familiar, well...

Wailing and Gnashing!

Two things: First, there has been wailing and gnashing of teeth by the right-wing media over the President’s recent comment, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.”

The wailing and gnashing was further exacerbated when a judge on the Miss USA Competition panel asked Miss California her thoughts about gay marriage. Her response, from a Christian values perspective, and his publicity-designed response to hers pushed the wailing and gnashing up a couple of decimal points on the Richter Scale.

I find all of this sad and amusing, in a peculiar sort of way, so much so, that I felt led to comment on it, tongue-in-cheek, over at Slightly Irreverent – The Statue of Liberty’s symbolism notwithstanding.

12. Fool!

I’m posting this on Easter Sunday. There sure were a lot of foolish people in church today, clinging to hope eternal.

The Apostle Paul famously wrote these words: “We are fool’s for Christ…” Or as The Message paraphrases it: “We’re the Messiah’s misfits” (1 Corinthians 4:10).

One of God’s quintessential fools was Staff Captain Joseph Garabed, a.k.a., Joe the Turk. The ability to release the fool within is essential to discovering the Genesis person within. The full context of that discovery process can be found in Chapter 12 of my book in progress over at joenoland.com (Scroll down) or the alternate website: InYESvation!

Happy Easter!

RevolutionHawaii!

Here’s the latest production from the Noland family: Guy’s production, Rob’s program and Dad’s pride. It was a creative collaboration of course, between the two of them, with Mom and Dad’s offering: A few of the creative genes required, hopefully.

From another extremely creative family gene pool, comes the musical creation and performance part by Lincoln Hawk.

Two innovative, creative sites you should visit often.

Do me a favor for God’s sake! Would you? Post this link and/or pass it on to those within your networking sphere of influence. Please. Thanks.

Sanctified Diversity!

Sacred Cow: Something held in such respect that it cannot be criticised or attacked – UsingEnglish.com.

I have, cautiously, tackled this topic in a blog over at The Rubicon. I say, cautiously, because there is always a bit of risk involved regarding interpretation and motivation. Some will interpret it as a criticism of the Army (including its traditional forms of music), which it surely is not. Playing in the band was integral to my formative years and I personally prefer the old hymns. Others will construe it as negativism, even though purposely written to emphasize the positives.

Yes, it is written in such a way as to attract attention and stir one’s thinking about where our focus should be; not on where we’ve been, or even where we are, but on where we should be going.

I do respect everyone’s point of view and their right to express it, even to make decisions that may be contrary to my own way of thinking. I like to refer to these differences as “sanctified diversity.” But, then again, this might be interpreted as a liberal point of view. To each his own, God help us continue to make a difference!

Sanctified Diversity: "I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." (1 Cor. 9:22 NKJV)

ArmyBarmy & TheRubicon

I’ve been a little bit negligent in my blogging on this site, too many projects in the fire: Hallowed Ground Productions, a feature film and Camp Creation DVD in the works along with book in progress over at the website.

Also some periodical posts over at The Rubicon. Take a look at Captain Grant Sandercock-Brown’s post – Sewing Up Old Wineskins - and my comment (#13) following, referencing a post yet to come.

This follows close on the heels of a previous blog I wrote over there: Salvation + ism = The Right Balance.

Also an article appearing in Journal of Aggressive Christianity (JAC Online) over at ArmyBarmy: Discovering the Genesis Person Within – All these sites worthy of placing on your “Favorites” list. Good innovative, pace-setting stuff in TSA world today.
